100 Attend Spring Home Ownership Counseling Program

Over 100 people, eager to learn the ins and outs of purchasing a home, recently attended the free spring Home Ownership Counseling Program held at Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown.  Coming from all walks of life and with a variety of ideas about what home ownership is, attendees spent 8 hours learning everything they need to know, making contacts, asking questions, and ultimately leaving with a wealth of information.

NHS was proud to participate by giving an in depth look at closing cost and down payment assistance programs.  Claudia Lastres, NHS of the Lehigh Valley’s Home Ownership Coordinator, outlined the various programs, delved into the details, and fielded many questions from people who had not realized that assistance was available to them.  The experience was very enlightening.

Several topics, besides closing cost and down payment assistance programs, were presented.  Included were presentations on Budgeting, Credit, Working with a Lender, Mortgage Loans, Predatory Lending, Working with a Realtor, Home Inspections, Homeowner Insurance, What to Expect on Settlement Day, and Avoiding Foreclosure.

The program was organized and facilitated by Amy Arroyo of Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley.  The program is offered throughout Lehigh Valley several times each year, in English and in Spanish.    Click here for more information.
